Cake Baking

Posted on January 24th, 2007 in Coding by abdallah

I started learning Ruby on Rails last month and it was quite interesting. However, I couldn’t move the project I was already working on smoothly over to RoR because the guy working with me on it couldn’t handle learning a new language/framework in the middle of the race…
So it was back to plain old php or finding another framework that didn’t mean too steep a learning curve. And here it was, CakePHP. I already saw Cake a while ago, but I wasn’t into frameworks then (=
So, after reading the book and fiddling around with the settings a couple (7) of times, here’s my own cake recipe:

[ bash Code ]
  1.
  2. php cake/scripts/bake2.php app flake /home/abdallah/public_html/flake
  3. php cake/scripts/bake2.php dbconfig flake flake user pass -persistent
  4. php cake/scripts/bake.php flake
  5.     M => Model
  6.     C => Controller
  7.     V => View
  8.     php cake/scripts/acl.php initdb -app flake
  9.
  10.

I’ll keep on editing this entry to let you know how my cake ends up.

Lebanon (non)Politics

Posted on January 20th, 2007 in Blogging by abdallah

For the last couple of weeks (or even more) one song has been the talk of the town in Lebanon. As I recall I heard the song a long time ago, however it was released with it’s new video clip thus getting more coverage.
El Zou3ama Fallo Min Lebnanexternal.png: The Politicians have left Lebanon!
You can download the wmv file attached to this post if you want to listen to it… courtesy of rampurple
Some interesting links from the same site:
7illo 3anna: Leave us be.
Badna n3eesh: We want to live.

Please note that I am in no way affiliated to any party, nor am I interested in Politics in any shape or form.

Extract Bible Verses

Posted on January 17th, 2007 in Theocratic by abdallah

I knew something like that existed, however I was too lazy to read the fine manual!
It’s that easy to extract the bible verses from an article in the Watchtower Library (2005, it should work with earlier versions)

  • Simply select the part where the verses/citations exist
  • Copy the part (CTRL-C)
  • Press CTRL-ALT-C, and watch as the citations are extracted. Note that it may take a long time if you’re extracting all the citations from a book for example.

Of course, I should have known that from the manual. So, returning to the manual I was happy to note that: (from the manual)

This feature allows you to select text in a word processor document, copy it to the Clipboard, then use Watchtower Library to extract the citations in that text. To do this:

  1. Open a document in your word processor.
  2. Select the text in the document containing one or more citations.

So basically you can get the text from anywhere, and the extraction would happen just the same! Cool stuff…

The Daily Text page

Posted on January 15th, 2007 in Coding by abdallah

Yesterday, a friend in the US sent me a file containing the TMS schedule as well as the es2007 (English) in Excel format. As I was still patching this site together I thought why not use the file in Wordpress, and that was it.
Currently, the page only shows today’s scripture + comments. And I added the weekly reading schedule at the bottom. If you feel something else could be added feel free to contact me.

The Pie

It’s a chilly afternoon here in Beirut, and we’re simply waiting for something to make us go out into the cold.

Jayi 3a bali a3mil shi akel, something like (her famous - edit by abdallah) cheese cake, or even a Pie. But I don’t have a recipe for a pie, so here we go … some internet browsing and something like the following could anytime spring out of the oven!

Apple Pie
