Daniel’s Personal Study

Posted on July 20th, 2007 in Blogging by abdallah

A couple of weeks ago in the Wt. study, one paragraph in particular captured my attention. The paragraph was talking about the prophet Daniel, who was still active and having a good bible study at the age of 90+
What captured my attention was this: the paragraph said there was indication (in what he wrote evidently) that he was studying parts of the bible we now know as Leviticus, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea and Amos! The paragraph then gives a (well known) example of Daniel quoting Jeremiah’s prophecy about the 70 years of captivity in Babel.
What I wanted to know is the rest of it, the other parts that Daniel was studying, and here’s what I found after some digging :) Article not complete!
Leviticus: We all know the famous stand that the 4 young friends took when taken to Babel. They refused to eat any foods that were forbidden by the law (Le 11:4, 13, 47; 17:12). A second look, however shows that Daniel was a true student of the law even at his old age. In his apologetic prayer noted in Daniel Chapter 9, he refers back to the Law several times as he confesses the errors made by the people of Israel.

(Daniel 9:13) . . .Just as it is written in the law of Moses, all this calamity—it has come upon us, and we have not softened the face of Jehovah our God by turning back from our error and by showing insight into your trueness. . .

Isaiah:

*** kl chap. 2 p. 18 par. 17 ***
The fall of Babylon. Isaiah and Jeremiah both foretold Babylon’s fall to the Medes and the Persians. Remarkably, Isaiah’s prophecy about this event was recorded some 200 years before Babylon was conquered! The following aspects of prophecy are now matters of historical record: the drying up of the Euphrates River by diverting its waters to an artificial lake (Isaiah 44:27; Jeremiah 50:38); a careless lack of security at Babylon’s river gates (Isaiah 45:1); and the conquest by a ruler named Cyrus.—Isaiah 44:28.

PPPoE Trouble

Posted on July 9th, 2007 in Blogging by abdallah

For a couple of days the pppoe connection at my new appartment worked like a charm. After that poof! disappeared.
The connection would go up then down. On Windows, all is fine, so I figured it was a bug with the software… nope, re-installed, re-compiled, etc…
Anyway to cut the story short, I had to stop the DHCP client on the network interface connecting to the pppoe service. After that it was AOK. It doesn’t make sense really, but it worked
So if you’re using fastnetonline.com, and need help connecting, drop me a line, I might be able to help…
I also had to edit the default route manually to use the ppp0 device! looks like it’s something that needs to be fixed. I’m thinking of going back to gentoo!

Plenty, No time to blog about it though!
I started this entry at my place yesterday night, right after I was able to connect to the internet using the local isp’s crappy PPPoE installation.
For some reason, they are using the Service Name directive as an added means of user management! I have one word to say about this: pfff! To get this to work, I first tried installing via apt-get on the laptop (running ubuntu feisty). But that didn’t work, or at least I couldn’t connect. Next, I tried getting some other software but there was nothing else. So I grabbed the source tarball, and there you are, two minutes later I was connected [(sudo) tkpppoe being the keyword.]
tkpppoe

I am sleeping at my apartment these couple of days before the wedding. I like to get the feeling of the place before moving in: how much it takes to get to work (18mins leaving at 07:42!), how much sunlight I get in the morning in each room, where to get breakfast, the shower, etc…

What else, I started working remotely with some very nice people at RimuHosting. Not only are they really nice, they are truly very professional and very knowledgeable. I’m refining my Linux and hosting knowledge there. Moodeef is being re-worked as well, and I’m creating Flake file-service as a java/tomcat app. Hopefully it would be finished soon.

I’m not watching any movies or TV lately, I found the director’s cut (or studio cut) of David Lynch’s Dune (Frank Herbert’s) and I have it on my laptop, but I haven’t gotten to watching it yet!

I’d better get back to work now ;)

I was looking for some code samples when I stumbled on these videos. Microsoft has definitely too much money on their hands!

Wednesday in Lebanon

Posted on May 23rd, 2007 in Blogging by abdallah

Just to prove me wrong, the people doing the bombings in Lebanon got outside Beirut for a change. Strike III hit in the town of Aley, 10 mins from Beirut in the mountains.
Any guess on where/when they’re hitting next? Anyone?

Monday in Lebanon

Should I make a new category for this blog? If so, what would it be: politics or bombings?
I was again at the house in Zouk today. People are still fighting the army in the north. Work as usual… And close to midnight, there you go, another bomb in the midst of Beirut city.
This time it was Verdun, another up-scale street in Beirut.
Both bombings targeted empty spaces. The only casualties are by “accident”, it seems like the bombers were trying not to target civilians. But they got a few anyhow.
I won’t go into more details, but I’ll simply note that this is night 2 of the bombings, hopefully the last.

Sunday in Lebanon

Posted on May 21st, 2007 in Blogging, Mood by abdallah

It’s quite an ordinary day: a few terrorists battling the army in the north, the army blocking highways reaching Beirut from the north, and a mesterious bombing after midnight. All in one Lebanese day.

Now someone tell me we’re not having fun!

I spent most of the day in Zouk, at my place. We even had visitors! I wish we took some pics though…

Anyway, I was checking the place where the bomb struck last night and found the most wonderous pic on Google earth. Check it out.

ABC & the monastary

Can you guess what the alien ship is? Yeap, that’s the ABC mall… cool eih?!

WTLib 2006 on iSilo

Posted on March 7th, 2007 in Blogging by abdallah

It’s out! My iSilo is not working… However, I still got the files for my friends in Lebanon to use.

This version comes in different flavors, I guess the guys who made it worked really hard to make it accessible for almost everyone out there. So, I’m not going to make their efforts go to waste, and I won’t break any laws at the same time: Anyone who needs the files, please send me a note (comment) and I’ll try to deliver the files the best I can (SandalNet or otherwise :D).

More jQuery

Posted on February 15th, 2007 in Blogging by abdallah

I’ve already written about JavaScript the easy way, but this is ridiculous. jQuery simply puts every other tool there is out there to shame. There are too many useful things in there, especially using the plugins, that one cannot start adding the features to the site/web-app.
I’ve been re-writing the web application for the MRP in the factory I work for, and things are getting there faster than I thought. Honestly, what’s holding me back are the logic that’s shifting day by day as we refine our processing, and the layout (CSS and stuff), but I have GE for that!
So, what am I using:

[ javascript Code ]
  1. $("#element-id").corner("top"); // you can use many combinations for the rounded corners
  2. $(‘#container’).tabs({remote = true}); // loads stuff using AJAXially
  3. $(‘#myForm’).ajaxForm(options);
  4. $(‘#myForm’).ajaxSubmit(options);
  5.
